He goes bezerk when he sees another dog on the other side of the street. I am going to try the reward system.....instead of yanking his chainAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1312949362570984167.post-21166146690350259792011-04-30T12:07:50.598-07:002011-04-30T12:07:50.598-07:00This post is focused on using one technique with l...This post is focused on using one technique with leash aggression. Usually with this type of dog, the other dog is in visual range but not in close proximity (usually across the street). It is one of several techniques used with leash aggression and it is a good foundation.

It sounds like your dog has food aggression/resource guarding issues but that does not necessarily mean you throw the baby out with the bathwater and dispense with food treats altogether. You should read Jean Donaldsob's book, "Mine" for protocols dealing with the type of behavior you are addressing.Pawsitive Feedback Traininghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07768368778284099033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1312949362570984167.post-40543451594822040862011-04-13T15:16:55.064-07:002011-04-13T15:16:55.064-07:00While I think this is a wonderful and educated was...While I think this is a wonderful and educated was of conditioning a dog out of aggressive behavior, I have some worries about food/treats being a source of aggression for the dogs. I know my dog gets a little uptight when there is food/treats around and another dog(s). It is at times a source of snapping. I suppose it should only be done in an environment where the other dog cannot threaten to steal the food/treat.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1312949362570984167.post-45417201487276907462011-04-09T05:49:54.981-07:002011-04-09T05:49:54.981-07:00Nice post, I was just able to practice the "L...Nice post, I was just able to practice the "Look" game with Kirby last night in rally. He caught on quick and it went really well! I am currently reading Control Unleashed, we have no classes like that here, but our rally instructor is familiar with it and counter-conditioning so I think Kirby and I are on the right track!

http://welcometokirbysworld.blogspot.com/

Kirby's momKirby, CGChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04845583293526183881noreply@blogger.com
